Whitgift School review

Founded in 1596, Whitgift School is a historic British aristocratic boys' school that originally operated as a private day school and only began accepting boarding students in 2013. While it may not be on par with renowned boys' schools like Tonbridge School and Abingdon School, Whitgift School shines brightly and attracts the attention of many Hong Kong parents. Whitgift has a rigorous admissions process, admitting only 5 to 6 of the most outstanding boys from traditional prestigious schools in Hong Kong each year. Besides academic achievements, the school places great emphasis on sports. If you are a "well-rounded" student excelling in both academics and sports, Whitgift School is an excellent fit for you.

Whitgift School Introduction

A "Cradle of Scholars"

Whitgift School has been recognised as the "top-performing London private boys' school" by The Sunday Times Parent Power League Tables. The school offers GCSE, A-Level, B-TEC, and IB courses, consistently ranking high in UK school rankings. Such outstanding achievements are the result of the school's careful nurturing and comprehensive support. Apart from impressive public examination results, the school has also achieved remarkable results in national subject competitions. For instance, it has won numerous awards in the UK Senior Mathematics Challenge and the Biology Olympiad.

Educational Experiences Through Travel

The school has organised study trips to various parts of the world during long holidays, providing students with firsthand experiences to deepen their understanding of knowledge. The school leads students interested in geology on geological explorations in Iceland and takes those interested in history to Berlin, Germany, to explore historical events during World War II. These experiences deepen students' interest in their subjects, broaden their knowledge beyond textbooks, and broaden their horizons, encouraging them to pursue their interests.

Combining Vintage Architecture with Modern Facilities

The school buildings were designed by the late renowned architect Sir Arthur Blomfield, who has also created masterpieces for prestigious institutions such as the University of Cambridge, Eton College, and the Royal College of Music. Although the exterior of the buildings appears antiquated, the facilities inside are up-to-date. The school environment is picturesque, surrounded by roses, and it's hard to believe that one can see peacocks and storks leisurely living within the school premises. With such an elegant setting, it is no wonder the school boasts of being "noble" in the academic realm. However, modern facilities are also essential, including a chapel, gymnasium, golf practice ground, music hall, and music classrooms, all of which meet international standards, allowing students to use the latest teaching materials in a beautiful environment.

Outstanding Sports Facilities foster Future "stars"

For many years, Whitgift School has achieved excellent results in school competitions in cricket, football, rugby, and golf, among others. The school also employs several former professional footballers as coaches and has partnerships with well-known English Premier League teams such as Crystal Palace and Chelsea. Some students have been invited to "trial" at these two clubs, and Callum Hudson-Odoi, who currently plays for Chelsea, is a graduate of Whitgift School.

[UK Summer Course Enrollment Guidelines]

Although there is still some time before the summer vacation, many parents have already been busy planning this year's summer activities for their children since countries have gradually emerged from the shadow of the pandemic. The UK summer study abroad programme, which has been on hiatus for three years, has reentered the parents' field of vision. Vincent Tang, the Business Development Manager of Linkedu, a professional overseas education consultant, stated that many parents used to arrange for their children to participate in UK summer courses or study tours, considering them an opportunity for their children to experience life abroad and adapt to further education. "After the pandemic, the UK has gradually resumed various summer courses, and this year, the enthusiasm and active participation of parents have exceeded our expectations. Earlier, Linkedu held two physical and online seminars on UK summer courses, both of which attracted over 50 groups of parents and students. At the same time, we have also received many inquiries from parents in various ways about course content, indicating their eagerness to let their children 'go out' and experience the world and have a fulfilling summer," […]

UK Education: Is Archaeology Becoming a New Favourite?

Archaeology: More than Just the Study of Artefacts When discussing archaeology, people often associate it with terms like "artefact conservation" and "history." However, Vincent, an education consultant, discovered differences in elective courses offered in the second and third years of archaeology programmes at various UK universities. He identified four main categories: Historical Focus: This is the most typical archaeology programme that combines history and social sciences with some scientific methods to understand the development of humanities, society, and economy in ancient Greece, ancient Rome, China, the Mediterranean, the UK, and other regions. "The historical periods studied mainly range from ancient history and mediaeval history to the 19th century. Represented by prestigious universities such as Nottingham and Liverpool." Social Sciences: Archaeology programmes in this category are a blend of archaeology, ancient history, sociology, economics, anthropology, philosophy, and museum studies. "It suits students who want to understand history and archaeology from multiple perspectives. Newcastle University is a representative in this category." Biological Approach: This category involves more scientific elements, particularly biology and palaeontology. "These archaeological programmes focus on scientific approaches such as DNA analysis and the biological genetics of decomposed […]
