The term "House System" is usually heard in fully boarding schools, and Eastbourne College has also established a House System to enhance communication between students and teachers and foster a sense of belonging to the school. When students first arrive at the school, teachers assign them to different houses, which are the boarding houses where students reside. The dormitories consist of students from different nationalities, allowing them to live, study, and socialise together, thereby forming strong friendships with their dorm mates. Each house regularly organises various activities and competitions to foster teamwork among students.
Red Brick Buildings and the Utilisation of the Geographic Environment
Located in the town of Eastbourne, the largest town in East Sussex, England, with a six-kilometre-long beach, it is most famous for Beachy Head, a chalk cliff. The campus features grand red brick buildings, showcasing traditional architecture. The school makes good use of its geographical advantage, which enjoys the most abundant sunlight in the UK, to develop a variety of sports, including water activities such as windsurfing and rowing, which Hong Kong students may have less exposure to. The popular tourist destination of Brighton is only an hour away from the school, where notable attractions like Brighton Pier and the Royal Pavilion can be found. From May to August, Brighton hosts a wide range of events and programs, including street theatre, art exhibitions, and music performances. The school usually takes students to Brighton for a day of fun before the long holidays.
Specialised Training for Tennis Excellence
The school is well-known for producing talented tennis players and has won numerous national awards over the years. Eastbourne College selects 12 students each year to join its Elite Tennis Programme and undergo professional training and friendly matches with tennis players from neighbouring schools at nearby tennis clubs.
