In today's technologically advanced society, everyone has smartphones and can become a director, but can everyone really become a director? And can everyone who expresses their opinions online be considered a keyboard warrior or a media professional? After graduating, Andres pursued his directorial dreams by taking a Media Foundation Course. Recently, Andres shared his experience during the Foundation Course.


Is the media just about learning filmmaking?

Andres found the first semester more interesting, primarily focusing on introductions and teaching video production. In the second semester, they moved away from the studio and delved into books and texts, studying film and journalism. The coursework required a lot of writing and analysis, creating more pressure compared to the first semester. However, these skills are essential for a media professional.


Theory and practise

Although the theory courses were more challenging, the school provided several exciting opportunities for students to put theory into practice. For example, in the first semester, there was an opportunity to collaborate with students from a music school to shoot a music video. In the second semester, there was a chance to work with an environmental organisation in Brighton, assisting with their advertising campaigns. These opportunities were both interesting and practical.

"My Blog is My Work"

The Media Foundation had relatively fewer exams, and the school mainly assessed students through coursework. Students had to constantly update their blogs because their blogs served as their coursework. With online media becoming increasingly mainstream, students updating their blogs is akin to the daily work of media professionals.

State-of-the-art School Facilities

Different classrooms were specifically designed for different subjects, allowing students to access various professional equipment. There were also dedicated Apple computers provided for student use.

Support for UCAS Applications

Each student had a dedicated teacher responsible for their UCAS applications. The teacher would assist students in reviewing their application materials and personal statements. Regarding university selection, Andres would consult subject teachers to inquire about facilities and career prospects at different universities. As Andres was in his first year studying in the UK, he had limited knowledge about UK universities, so the advice from teachers was extremely helpful. In addition to school teachers, Andres also maintained contact with LinkedU's educational consultants to gain more insights into further education options.
