[#LINKEDUpeople: Student Interview #001 Isaac Ho, University of Bristol]

"By being goal-oriented and seizing the opportunity to pursue what interests you, enjoy life to the fullest."Isaac, who started studying at the University of Bristol last September, is currently enrolled in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) foundation programme, with a focus on mechanical engineering. "Studying the foundation programme in university allows me to concentrate on my desired subjects earlier than my peers, and I see it as an advantage."  Isaac had already developed an interest in engineering during middle school and was determined to pursue a career in this field. In order to adapt to university life a year earlier and focus on his major subjects, he decided to skip the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) and directly enrol in the University of Bristol's renowned engineering bridging programme. "Online classes don't feel too unfamiliar, and I even feel the teachers' extra care in one-on-one interactions." Due to the pandemic, Isaac mentioned that most classes were conducted online. The professors also arranged online group discussions and provided opportunities for walk-in sessions, aiming to provide a classroom-like experience. Even though it was online teaching, the teachers put […]

Overseas Study: Three Strategies for Applying to the UK UCAS

In recent years, studying abroad has become a trend, and the UK, with its comprehensive education system, curriculum has naturally become one of the most popular study destinations. The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) in the UK is a university application platform through which nearly all UK universities can be applied to, including renowned institutions such as Oxford and Cambridge (the "G5 universities") and the Russell Group universities. If you are interested in studying in the UK, it is important to do your homework beforehand to avoid feeling overwhelmed when selecting schools. Vincent Tang, the Business Development Manager at LINKEDU, shares three strategies for applying to UCAS: 1.Choose the subject first, then the university. When applying through UCAS, students should prioritise considering the subjects they want to study rather than focusing solely on the reputation of the university. When choosing subjects, they can decide based on future career directions, personal interests, or combinations of elective subjects. It is important to note that some subjects may require applicants to have studied specific subjects in order to meet the university's entry requirements. For example, studying biology is required for […]

How to Build a Strong Profile for UK Study

Vincent Tang, the Business Development Manager of LINKEDU, a professional overseas education consultant, suggests that students need to plan ahead, especially for competitive subjects like Medicine, Veterinary Science, Physiotherapy, and Occupational Therapy, given the impact of the pandemic. It is important to make good use of the summer break to make the necessary arrangements.Vincent points out that as the number of applicants continues to increase, many parents and students go to great lengths to enhance their competitiveness. One common practise is "Profile Building," which was initially seen in certain professional disciplines such as Medicine, Veterinary Science, and Chiropractic. Students often take advantage of the summer break to participate in activities related to their desired disciplines, demonstrating their firsthand experience, interest, and certification in the subject, thus enriching their resume. This approach has become increasingly common and has expanded to various professional disciplines, including Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy in the field of health sciences. Characteristics of Profile Building So, what activities should students participate in, and what criteria and directions should they consider? Vincent provides examples and highlights the following characteristics based on his past experience with students who […]
